Did I really waste $2.99 on this thing? Hopefully this thing is just satire, but I'm afraid that is not the case. I guess if you want a quick summary of the book here you go. Democrats are idiots. Especially their voters.
To begin with, I found the way "facts" were presented to be fairly disingenuous. For example when discussing the addition of the youth vote, I feel the author leads the reader to believe that the 26th amendment was forced upon us by those idiotic Democrats. However, Dwight D. Eisenhower was the first president to support the idea of lowering the voting age, and it finally came to fruition under Richard Nixon, both of whom were Republicans. The bill was passed by a unanimous vote in the Senate which contained 44 Republicans, and it also had Republican support in the House. So in actuality this was not an entirely Democratic endeavor, which I feel he was trying to indicate by the way he presented the information.
Along this facet are the numerous polls that he alludes to, without a mention of sources. Yes, for most of them the author mentions who produced the poll, but with nary a mention of any specifics or footnotes as to the actual poll; and for one poll he doesn't even mention that much—for all we know it could have been be a poll from his neighborhood or his friends! This requires the reader to take him for his word, unless one spends time attempting to find these polls. But maybe there is an underlying reason for not providing too much information? As an example, one of the polls mentioned by the author is a Zogby poll conducted on Obama voters. First of all there is some controversy about this one anyways, but what I find curious, is that it was conducted only on Obama supporters, but not McCain supporters as well. The man who commissioned the poll, John Ziegler, already had the results that he wanted in mind and without a comparison—and it might be argued even with it— this poll is meaningless.
So from being deceitful we move to being, well, I'm not exactly sure how to classify his discussion on women suffrage. Maybe it's best summed up with his own words:
"for in those far freer days, the now-verboten subject of women's distinctive nature could be discussed with a frankness that will startle current sensibilities. Angry charges of sexism would immediately shut down any such talk today."
So in other words, turn back decades of progress on societies views of women and you will get his point. This sentiment comes full circle, and hammers home his true feelings when concludes that Obama achieved the majority of the women vote by going on talk shows and pulling off his shirt for the camera! Whilst I know I should expect some condescension and disrespect from a book titled as immaturely as this one is, I felt his discussion of women was pretty far out of line.
The author also discusses voter ID laws, and asserts the often regurgitated argument that these laws aren't about voter suppression. Why don't we hear from some of the strong supporters of voter ID laws then? Here is a few:
Don Yelton precinct chair in the Buncombe County, North Carolina Republican Party that voter ID laws were to "kick the Democrats in the butt,"
Pa. House Republican Leader Mike Turzai that his state voting ID laws were to "allow" Romney "to win the state of Pennsylvania".
Florida GOP Chairman...I mean former Chairman Jim Greer (or ex-con Greer): “The Republican Party, the strategists, the consultants, they firmly believe that early voting is bad for Republican Party candidates...It’s done for one reason and one reason only. … ‘We’ve got to cut down on early voting because early voting is not good for us,’ ”
Notice how not one said that they wanted to limit voter fraud and to restore and protect the integrity of voting? Don't get me wrong, I don't necessarily disagree with the author about requiring photo ID. However, when the law will allow a concealed weapons permit to suffice, but not a student ID, don't try and tell me that there aren't political machinations behind it.
In conclusion, when this book stoops to such low levels as to mention that a couple liberals did poorly on Jeopardy in a dishonest attempt to draw the conclusion that all liberals are stupid, any sort of integrity the author has goes right out the window. Goodness, by this logic having a mustache makes one a fascist. This book is rife with all sorts of this intellectual dishonesty and therefore I feel fails to be able to produce any sort of viable argument to support his premise. Does he have a valid point about testing? Maybe, as I wouldn't whole heartedly disagree with the aspect of a "test", but he truly isn't going to convince anyone by using the vitriolic, baseless, and condescending tone that permeates this book.
